For this generation, one such love team stands out along the likes of America’s Brangelina, Bennifer and Tomkat – Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson’s Kimerald. While it is unconfirmed whether the coupling holds true off camera, one thing remains unquestionable and that is their fans’ support. Gerald’s gratitude is contagious, “We are so thankful for all their undying support. Wherever we go, we always feel their support and presence. We owe them a lot, they are one of the main reasons for the success of our love team.” Kim in turn reflects his sentiments and perhaps unconsciously, also responds for both of them, “I’m very thankful to the people who have always been supporting us and believing in our talent.”

 

Proof of their fans love and support are their gifts. Most memorable are probably the flat screen TVs and laptop that they received. Kim is touched, “Our fans are really generous!” Even abroad, both Kim and Gerald prioritize touching base with their fans. They attended a Filipino community event in New Jersey and were overwhelmed by the reception. “I guess they are excited to see us up close and personal, and it’s pretty flattering because they show you so much admiration and it’s very touching. They give so much effort just to see us perform,” says Gerald. “We met a lot of Filipinos there..."

Face-to-face with Darna's Marian and Mark

Marian's QuotationTHERE are Filipino superheroes, and then there is Darna. Originally a fictitious superheroine appearing in a comic series created by Mars Ravelo in the late 40s, the character has since become a cultural icon and possibly the most recognized one of all in the Philippines. Throughout the years, movies and television series have been made based on the character and the title role has naturally become quite coveted amongst actresses of all generations.

 

In 2009, GMA Pinoy TV launched its own version of the television series starring Marian Rivera. Having played various dramatic roles on TV and in movies, including the title role of Dyesebel, a mermaid character also created by Mars Ravelo, she has become one of the most popular actresses of this generation. Despite her overwhelming successes, she still recognizes the importance of this role to her career. “I'm so thankful to have been given this role because I know that it's every Filipino actress' dream role.” Other actresses who have played the role are Lorna Tolentino, Angel Locsin and the Philippines’ Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos.
